The 3/4" scale, 3-1/2" gauge YANKEE SHOP "Challenger" by Lester Friend, seen here in the 1940s at the Danvers track of the New England Live Steamers. Do you know where this locomotive is today?

WANTED:

Friends
would like to know the location, status, and disposition of the 3/4" scale Yankee Shop 4-6-6-4 Union Pacific "Challenger" which was built by Lester Friend in Yankee Shop of Danvers, Mass. during World War II. During construction, the locomotive was nicknamed "Judy" by Lester Friend. A series of construction articles about this locomotive was published in The Model Craftsman magazine during the World War 2 years of the1940s.

This is NOT a request to buy an engine that is not for sale. I would simply like to know its location and disposition, and would like the opportunity to see it, photograph it, and measure it. If it is for sale, I would be interested, but otherwise I would simply like the chance to see it in person. Can you help?

If you own Lester Friend's 3/4" scale, 3-1/2" gauge live steam Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 articulated Challenger, please contact me. If you know its location, please tell the owner of my interest in seeing the locomotive, and please ask the owner to contact me.

Details: 4 cylinders; 6" copper boiler; 12 red colored wheels (6 each side); riveted cab and tender; "centipede" style tender truck; coal-fired; possibly has coal in the tender; 3-1/2" inches between the rails (tracks).

Thank you.
