COAL

Any castings bought from the Friends Models website in 2010 will be accompanied by a free "zip lock baggie" of GENUINE Mount Washington Cog Railway coal from New Hampshire, USA.

Steam at Mt. Washington is disappearing, and is being replaced by diesel locomotives. This bag of soft (bituminous) coal is "live steam sized" and can be used in your live steam engine or kept as a memento. Friends Models thanks you for your support. (Friends Models' owner was a Brakeman, Fireman, and Engineer on Mt. Washington from 1992-2001)

John Kurdzionak Mt. Mount Washington Cog Railway Rwy. RR
This is me and my friend Angela on top of Mt. Washington somewhere between 1993 and 1996. The days of the Cog employees being blackened with soot from head to toe are all but gone; the Cog Railway is now nearly all "diesel". When this photo was taken it was 100% coal-fired steam and I was running or firing three or four 3-hour trips, per day, often 6 or 7 days per week. That era is over. I share it with my customers by supplying them with a baggie of Mt. Washington coal with every purchase.
